Hispanic heritage draws from the customs and traditions of over a dozen different countries located in the Western Hemisphere. That internal cultural diversity has helped the members of the Hispanic community make a unique impact on New York’s historical and cultural landscape. The individuals highlighted in this exhibit have represented us, entertained us, educated us, and informed our sense of equality and justice. Their accomplishments remind us of the importance of Hispanic people and culture to New Yorkers of every background and reinforce this State’s tradition of being a home to Hispanics where their energy, insights and entrepreneurial spirit are helping to make New York the Empire State once again.

El patrimonio hispano se origina de las costumbres y tradiciones de más de una docena de países distintos, ubicados en el hemisferio oeste. Esa diversidad cultural dentro de la comunidad hispana ha brindado grandes contribuciones al panorama histórico y cultural de Nueva York. Las personas destacadas en esta exhibición nos han representado, entretenido, educado y nos han abierto los ojos ante lo que es la igualdad y la justicia. Sus logros nos recuerdan la importancia de las personas y de la cultura hispana para los neoyorquinos de toda procedencia, así como refuerza la tradición de este estado de ser un hogar para los hispanos en el que su energía, conocimientos y espíritu emprendedor ayudan a que Nueva York sea una vez más el Empire State.
